In simple
language, distillation is a method of separating the components of a liquid
mixture by using the process of boiling and condensation. The equipment used in
the process of distillation is known as distillation equipment. Distillation is
considered a unit operation because it comes under the larger chemical process
and it can only be done with the help of distillation equipment. Distillation equipment has various uses commercially. For example, water is distilled by
distillation equipment to remove impurities such as salt from seawater.

activity coefficients. Relative volatility is the measurement of the vapor
pressures of the components. The activity coefficient is used for the
calculations of the final deviation. The design of distillation equipment is
a very important task to make the procedure successful. Qualified engineers are
used for the designing of distillation equipment.
Some of the
types of distillation process are simple distillation, short path distillation,
molecular distillation, fractional distillation, thin-film distillation, and
spinning band distillation.
